    Quality Assurance; a lost art

Got my new shiny ultra dependable Generac pressure washer out of the box and put in the oil, and the gas, and did the assembly and read the instructions. Everything was looking good so I hooked up the water hose and pulled the recoil. It turned a quarter turn and jammed. Arrrgggh! I called customer service. They were quite sympathetic, but since I had oil and gas in the unit it was no longer eligible for shipping and I would have to put it in the car and get it to a Generac warranty service outlet. No offer of help other than an address and a phone number for the service company. No offer of a discount for my trouble. In fact I got a great story about how the owner of the company had the sam thing happen to him... So today I got the unit to Gill’s small engines and they took the recoil apart and removed the loose bolt left in the flywheel case during assembly. Probably got picked up on the magnet. Loose bolt out, and the unit started like a true Generac and ran fine. Such a shame that Nationwide can’t do more in these situations. Such a shame that Generac didn’t pull the starters handle to see if their customer’s first impression would be satisfaction or disappointment.
